Our guest speaker for this month’s meeting is Johan Tijssen, the Director of the Hempcrete Company. The Hempcrete building material is comprised of the woody core of the industrial hemp plant, water and a lime-based binder. It creates a monolithic wall membrane and insulation at the same time, cast around the structural frame of the building or in between rafters and joists. It is a healthy building material with breathability, excellent insulation properties, carbon sequestration, fire and termite resistance. Hempcrete originated from the Romans and was reintroduced in France about 20 years ago.Johan Tijssen, who is also a builder, brought the product and knowledge to Australia where the company provides the technical expertise to build with Hempcrete, trains builders and owner builders to become approved installers and supplies the materials, INSULCORE and INSULIME, equipment and formwork to correctly install the product.
If you are thinking about building a sustainable house, then this is one talk not to be missed. You will get first hand information and expertise direct from the person who is not only the owner of the company but who can also train you in the installation methods.
ATA Members are encouraged to bring guests to our monthly meetings and any suggestions regarding future speaker subjects, or ATA direction, to our committee meeting.
Light refreshments will be served after the meeting where further discussion is generally the order of the day over a cup of tea or coffee and a few nibblies.
Committee Meeting: from 6.30pm, all welcome.
Kind regards, John Clark, ATA Brisbane Branch Convenor
