Topic: Community Renewable Energy
Convenor: Peter Wonfor
Speaker: Craig Memery
Craig discussed the potential for community-owned renewable energy projects. This promising emerging sector offers urban residents who do not have the location and site criteria essential for individual systems the opportunity to participate in community wind and solar systems on a shareholder basis. Craig described how some projects are being set up and managed to the benefit of the environment and all concerned. Craig made a complex topic very interesting and engaging, and there was lively discussion throughout. This was an excellent evening.
Craig has 10 years of experience in the field of renewable energy and related areas. Since 2009 Craig has worked with ATA’s Policy and Projects team, where his role is divided between
– providing advice on sustainable energy to government and the private sector, as well as community organisations
– advocating, on behalf of consumers and communities who benefit from the sustainable energy technology and improved market efficiency, for improvements and reforms in the National Energy Market
