ATA Brisbane branch field trip - Sustainability in All Ways – Retrofitting ExcellenceSeptember 30, 2017 at 10:00 am
As a follow up to Sustainable House Day, the Brisbane branch is giving members the opportunity to have an extended tour through an exemplary home with a range of sustainable features.
Gary and Janet Crighton are a great example of people committed to sustainability and retrofitting their home and garden to suit. There is so much so see at this 30 year old home and retrofitting is very important as most of us live in older homes. Both Janet and Gary have lots of knowledge and experience to share – Janet being the gardener extraordinaire and recycler, and Gary being the EV and PV enthusiast. Here’s just some aspects that you will see and learn about:
Two PV systems – A hybrid PV system consisting of one standard grid connected PV system and one PV system dedicated to battery charging, and supplying a range of GPOs within the home. This battery bank may also be charged from the grid where applicable electricity tariffs allow this. Aquion AHI salt water batteries are used.
Electric Vehicle – BMW i3 – innovation at its best
- Cardiff Air home ventilation system
- Foil insulation added under the roof tiles
- Roller shutter doors replacing standard garage doors
- Added shading protection over windows and outdoor living areas
- LED lighting
- Induction cooking
Gardening and Food Production
- Perennials for greens
- Beneficial insects and animals including bees and chooks
- Soil quality and preparation
We hope to see you on the field trip.
