Hazelwood is the dirtiest generator in Australia and one of the dirtiest in the world as well as being the oldest large generator in Australia. So will it be one of the first coal-fired power plants to be decommissioned as a result of climate change mitigation? This would be the sensible step, following on from the Paris conference. Especially as renewable energy sources prove themselves elsewhere to be practical energy providers.
Rob has done extensive research into the history of Hazelwood and other dirty generators (and the power system that they are a part of) and has observations and conclusions that are both interesting and provocative. So please come and find out why this is wishful thinking and what the reality is likely to be.
If you'd like to do some homework first, check out the National Pollutant Inventory entry for Hazelwood here
