ATA Tas North branch meeting - Bushfire Risk and Climate Change - What you can do.January 31, 2017 at 5:00 pm
When: Tuesday 31 January 2017, 6pm for 6.30pm start.
Where: Little Theatre, Meander Valley Performing Arts Centre, 2 Meander Valley Road, Deloraine TAS 7304. Please note the corrected address. (Click here for a map).
With the increasing risk of bushfire due to climate change, we have arranged for a Fire Tasmania community rep, based in Launceston, to address our meeting.
As this can be a fraught time for Fire Tasmania, if there is a fire emergency we have the option of watching a film on bushfires provided by Fire Tasmania.
The meeting will cover the following aspects:
- Dr. Midj Jones, recently retired meterorologist, will talk about the historical changes in climate and weather which account for the severity of the latest bushfires.
- David Cleaver, Tasmanian Fire Service Community Development Officer will speak about best practice in dealing with the type of bushfires now being experienced in Tasmania, and will answer your questions.
- ATA North committee members will also speak briefly. Julie Hargreaves will present her bushfire landscape planning and Bruce Jackson will talk about arrangements for animals.
You can download Julie's bushfire-smart landscape plan here.
