The Finkel Review into the future security of the National Electricity Market is an extensive report.
It considers a wide range of current and future issues relating to the price, security, reliability and emissions intensity of the market and contains more than 50 specific recommendations for improvements.
While not perfect, the Finkel Review does provide a framework for a long-term plan that will significantly change investment in electricity generation. The report contains many good recommendations that, if implemented, would improve the market and benefit consumers. Once in place, future governments will be able to review and adapt aspects of it to better meet policy goals.
The ATA believes the Finkel Review’s centrepiece, the Clean Energy Target, is substantially better than current arrangements. We will be working to advance the interests of our members and all consumers – particularly on distributed electrcity generation, energy efficiency and other demand-side measures – as the review is considered and acted upon.
