If you are considering an ethical gift this festive season, why not give the Gift of Light to families in East Timor without access to electricity?
Since 2003, the Alternative Technology Association (ATA) and its partner organisations in East Timor have been installing solar lighting and power in remote villages across the country.
Since that time the ATA has installed solar-powered lighting in 1960 homes, community centres, orphanages and hospitals and trained 180 village-based solar technicians.
In 2017 we lit up 185 rural homes and trained eight new village-based solar technicians in East Timor, directly benefiting about 1300 people.
Not having access to power not only means an inability to study or do chores, it also means spending limited money on candles or kerosene, which can be dangerous, inefficient and expensive, and also has health and environmental impacts.
Help the ATA continue its work providing clean, renewable energy to improve people’s lives in East Timor by Giving the Gift of Light this Christmas. Donations are tax-deductible.
